PowerX Begins Shipping “Mega Power 2500” Battery Energy Storage System

2026.10.26

PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito; Securities Code: 485A) today began shipping the “Mega Power 2500,” a 10-foot container battery energy storage system (BESS). PowerX will proceed with sequential deliveries to installation sites across Japan, including utility-scale battery storage projects as well as co-located installations at power plants and factories.

PowerX has been producing the system at the Okayama Second Factory (located within the MITSUI E&S Tamano Works) since September 2026. In addition, PowerX plans to begin operating a production line for the system in January 2027 at “Power Base,” its headquarters factory, also located in Tamano City.

PowerX positions the system as its core product. By expanding the supply of BESS developed and manufactured in Japan, PowerX will contribute to stabilizing the power grid and improving Japan’s energy self-sufficiency.

Key features of the “Mega Power 2500” are as follows.

  • High-density design with liquid-cooled battery modules
The system is an all-in-one BESS package that integrates key units, such as batteries, cooling, auxiliary equipment, fire suppression, and monitoring and control, within a single enclosure. Newly adopted liquid-cooled battery modules allow cells to be densely packed, delivering 2,507 kWh (nominal) in a 10-foot container. Compared with PowerX’s existing 20-foot container BESS, the system provides comparable storage capacity with half the footprint, achieving approximately 1.8 times the storage capacity per unit of installation area.

  • Transportability and ease of installation, designed for sites in Japan
Drawing on its in-depth knowledge of installation environments in Japan, PowerX designed this 10-foot container model specifically for domestic sites. Compared with 20-foot container models, the compact enclosure is subject to fewer constraints during transport and crane installation, allowing it to be installed in mountainous areas that are difficult for large vehicles to access, as well as on small sites where securing a large plot of land is difficult. This enables flexible layouts tailored to the shape of each site, not only for utility-scale battery storage projects but also for co-location at solar power plants.

  • “JC-STAR” conformance label obtained
The system has obtained the conformance label (Level 1) under “JC-STAR”*, a security labeling scheme for IoT products, as a grid-scale BESS. It offers a level of security suited to operation at utility-scale battery storage projects, which require high reliability from the perspectives of stable power supply and national security.
*A security requirements conformity assessment and labeling scheme operated by the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA).

  • Resilience to natural disasters and noise
The system comes standard with the safety features required for operation in Japan, a country prone to natural disasters, including a function that detects seismic motion and initiates safety controls during earthquakes, as well as a wind-resistant design. To address noise, optional noise reduction features such as active noise cancellation are also available.
