PowerX Opens First Highway EV Charging Station
2025.05.30

TOKYO, JAPAN — PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Minato City, Tokyo, Japan; Director, President & CEO: Masahiro Ito) today announced the opening of its first EV charging station located directly on a highway. The station is situated at "Highway Oasis Furari" along the Futtsu-Tateyama Road in Minamiboso City, Chiba Prefecture.
The new station is equipped with two of PowerX's battery-integrated ultrafast EV charging systems, "Hypercharger," providing a total of four charging ports. Each port provides up to 150 kW of output, enabling even large-battery EVs to charge quickly and efficiently.
Notably, this installation marks the Japanese highway EV charging station to adopt a per-kWh pricing system, charging users based on the actual amount of electricity consumed. This method ensures greater clarity and fairness compared to conventional time-based pricing systems.
Highway Oasis Furari is conveniently located about an hour from central Tokyo, making it an ideal charging stop for travelers heading to the Minami-Boso area for tourism or resort stays. Adjacent to the station is "Michi-no-Eki Furari Tomiyama," which offers amenities such as a local produce market and a food court—providing visitors with a pleasant experience while charging their vehicles.
This project is part of PowerX's nationwide initiative, conducted in partnership with the National Michi-no-Eki Association, to equip roadside stations with EV chargers. To date, PowerX has opened charging stations at seven locations nationwide, with this site being the fourth within Chiba Prefecture.
PowerX is committed to advancing high-voltage, high-output charging solutions by leveraging its vertically integrated business model—from charger manufacturing to service operation. Insights gained from operating this station will inform the further deployment of charging infrastructure along highways across the country.
