NTT Anode Energy Selects PowerX Battery Energy Storage Systems for Extra-High Voltage Battery Farm in Hokkaido
2025.09.11
TOKYO, JAPAN — PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito) announced that it has received an order from Kandenko Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato City, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hirofumi Tabogami) for 28 units of its "Mega Power 2700A" battery energy storage system (BESS), totaling 76.7 MWh in capacity. These systems will be installed in a large-scale grid battery farm being developed in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido by NTT Anode Energy Corporation (Head Office: Minato City, Tokyo; President and CEO: Teruyuki Kishimoto).
The new extra-high voltage "Hokkaido Tomakomai Battery Farm" is scheduled to commence operation in FY 2028. By connecting to the power grid in the Hokkaido area for charging and discharging, it will contribute to stabilizing the supply-demand balance and support the further expansion of renewable energy in the region.
This project has been selected to receive a subsidy from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) under the "FY 2024 Subsidy Program for Supporting the Introduction of Energy Storage Systems to Promote the Adoption of Renewable Energy."
The partnership between PowerX and NTT Anode Energy began with their first project, the "Fukuoka Wakamatsu Battery Farm," which was successfully completed in April 2025 using PowerX's BESS. This Tomakomai project is the eighth and largest collaboration to date, joining six other high-voltage battery farms currently under development. It also marks the first extra-high voltage battery farm project for the partnership. PowerX will continue to contribute to Japan's carbon neutrality goals through collaboration with NTT Anode Energy on deployments of BESS.
