PowerX Introduces New Products to Streamline Grid Connection for Utility-scale Battery Storage and Data Centers

TOKYO, JAPAN --- PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito; Securities Code: 485A) today introduces the “Grid Connector” series, a new product line of integrated grid connection systems for utility-scale battery storage projects and data centers. Factory-integrated into skid-mounted units, each system combines a power conditioning system (PCS), transformers, high-voltage switchgear, and other components, reducing on-site work primarily to installation and connections. Featuring PowerX's newly developed in-house PCS and a fully integrated control and communication architecture, the Grid Connector series helps lower deployment costs, accelerate project delivery, and strengthen cybersecurity.

By developing the overall system architecture in-house, PowerX has further improved ease of installation and compatibility with its own battery energy storage systems (BESS). The first product in the series is the “Grid Connector for BESS,” designed for battery farms. As an extension of the series, PowerX also announces the “Grid Connector for DC” for AI data centers.

■ “Grid Connector for BESS” for Utility-scale Projects

A high-efficiency, all-in-one grid interconnection solution featuring silicon carbide (SiC) power modules. Two models will be offered: a 2.5 MVA model packaged in a single 20-foot-container-sized unit, and a 5 MVA model consisting of two units.

The product offers high hardware and software compatibility with the large-scale BESS of PowerX's “Mega Power” series. When deploying a utility-scale BESS project with the “Mega Power 2500,” up to eight battery containers can be connected to a single “Grid Connector.” This not only increases flexibility in site footprint and layout, but also minimizes on-site system integration.

The product also features PowerX's newly developed in-house PCS. Compared with the previously used PCS, it lowers costs, and by optimizing the entire system, including transformers and high-voltage switchgear, it helps reduce the initial deployment cost of battery farms. The PCS will also be available on a standalone basis, in addition to being offered as part of the integrated “Grid Connector.”
Prototyping and validation of the Grid Connector for BESS will begin at the end of this year, with mass production and market rollout starting sequentially from Q3 of 2027.

■ “Grid Connector for DC” for AI Data Centers

This product extends PowerX's grid interconnection platform to AI data centers. It simplifies and accelerates the construction and grid connection of AI data centers, where power consumption and heat generation continue to grow. The equipment required to launch a megawatt-class GPU data center is consolidated into the following function-specific units:

- Power Unit: substation equipment housing a SiC-based PCS, transformers, and other components
- Battery Unit: built around the “Mega Power 2500,” a 10-foot-container-sized BESS
- Cooling Unit: equipped with chillers and coolers that supply the cooling water essential to data centers

The factory-integrated modular design enables PowerX's “Zero-Day Connection*” concept, while redundant power and cooling provide the reliability required of the latest AI data centers. By integrating power, storage, and cooling equipment into a unified system with standardized control and communication specifications, and access management, the product reduces cybersecurity risks compared with conventional configurations that rely on multiple independently managed systems. In addition, because a large-capacity battery is included as standard, ancillary equipment such as UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems can be simplified in some configurations, supporting business continuity planning (BCP).

For the data center product, a prototype will be installed in early 2027. Following operation and validation, the company plans to begin preparations for mass production and start accepting orders.
