PowerX launches “Hypercharger for Fleet,” a smart and scalable EV fleet charging solution powered by clean energy
PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Minato City, Tokyo, Japan; Director, President & CEO: Masahiro Ito, hereafter PowerX) today launches the battery-integrated EV fleet charging system, “Hypercharger for Fleet.” The system features smart control and fleet charging optimization functions that can be leveraged for commercial EV operation. Pre-orders of the product start today, with delivery scheduled to begin in Q1 2024.
“Hypercharger for Fleet” is a smart EV charging solution designed for commercial EV fleet deployments, including trucks, buses, and taxis. The charging system automatically generates an optimal charging plan by considering the vehicle’s operation schedule and onboard battery capacity. In addition, the system incorporates a built-in storage battery, enabling the utilization of on-site or off-site renewable energy sources. It can also act as a backup power source during emergencies.
The battery-integrated design enables simple and cost-effective installation and operation, eliminating the need for a high-voltage power connection. This feature enables the system to be deployed in various commercial facilities such as offices, truck depots, hotels, and more. When combined with the fleet charging optimization functions,
“Hypercharger for Fleet” enables the simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles. Additionally, the storage battery units can be expanded up to 4MWh, allowing for the inclusion of more charging connectors and accommodating the charging needs of EV trucks in large-scale facilities.
“Hypercharger for Fleet” will be manufactured and shipped from PowerX’s factory in Tokushima Prefecture. The software is also developed domestically and monitored in servers located in Japan.
The Japanese government has set targets to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 46% compared to 2013 levels by the fiscal year 2030 and achieve nearly zero CO2 emissions by 2050. When it comes to operating electric vehicles as commercial vehicles, like trucks, taxis, and buses, it is common for operators to utilize the vehicles during the daytime and charge them at the depot during nighttime. However, in Japan, over 80% of the electricity supply during nighttime originates from thermal power sources, showing a significant challenge in attaining zero emissions for commercial vehicles under this operational framework.
The battery-integrated solution, “Hypercharger for Fleet,” offers the capability to store excess solar power and other renewable energy during the daytime and effectively utilizes this stored clean electricity to charge EVs during nighttime operations. By effectively utilizing intermittent renewable energy for charging EV fleets, “Hypercharger for Fleet” plays a crucial role in significantly reducing carbon footprints.
