PowerX Delivers First Battery-Powered ‘Hypercharger’ to Audi Japan Dealer Network

PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Minato, Tokyo, Japan; Director, President & CEO: Masahiro Ito, hereinafter PowerX) and Audi Japan (Head Office: Shinagawa, Tokyo; Brand Director: Matthias Schepers) have installed the first battery-integrated ultrafast EV charger “Hypercharger” at Audi Hachioji, an authorized Audi dealer in the outskirts of Tokyo.
With this installation, the dealer can now provide electric vehicle charging services utilizing renewable energy, contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society while enhancing convenience for customers using the charger.
Audi Hachioji is the first Audi dealer in Japan to adopt “Hypercharger,” a product developed and manufactured by PowerX, branded as the “Audi Ultra Charger.”
The standard model of “Hypercharger” features two CHAdeMO ports, enabling simultaneous rapid charging for up to two electric vehicles. It delivers a peak output of 150 kW for single-vehicle charging and a maximum of 120 kW per vehicle, totaling 240 kW when charging two vehicles simultaneously.
The charger comes equipped with a 358 kWh high-capacity battery that harnesses electricity from the 49.5 kW solar panel arrays installed on the store’s rooftop.
This innovative setup stores clean energy during periods of low demand and provides ultra-fast charging during peak demand hours.
PowerX announced its partnership with Audi Japan on January 20, 2023, unveiling plans to supply battery-powered ultrafast EV chargers across the nationwide Audi dealer network.
The companies are committed to accelerating the rollout, aiming to deploy 19 units by the end of 2023 and an additional 30 units in the first half of 2024.
