PowerX and HIGHRESO Begin Exploring Collaboration on Battery Energy Storage Co-Located with GPU Data Centers

2026.07.15

TOKYO, JAPAN --- PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito; Securities Code: 485A) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with HIGHRESO Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku City, Tokyo; CEO: Yoshiyuki Shikura), which operates GPU-dedicated data centers across Japan, to explore collaboration on energy infrastructure supporting GPU data centers and AI computing platforms.

As generative AI becomes more widespread, the build-out of GPU data centers, essential infrastructure for AI development, is accelerating rapidly. However, because GPU servers consume large amounts of electricity, limited grid capacity and rising electricity costs have become pressing challenges, making it increasingly important to design and operate power infrastructure and computing platforms in an integrated manner.

To address these challenges, the two companies will begin exploring collaboration in two main areas.

1. Utilization of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Co-Located with GPU Data Centers
The two companies will explore the use of BESS installed at data centers to optimize electricity costs and for operation in electricity markets. They will also assess its potential to enhance data center resilience, including use as backup power, taking both economic feasibility and facility design into account.

2. Partnership in the GPU Data Center Business
The two companies will explore ways to grow the GPU data center business together, including cooperation in sales and marketing, joint development of projects and candidate sites, and partnerships with infrastructure investors and financial institutions.

HIGHRESO has been operating GPU data centers dedicated to AI development since 2019 and provides the GPU cloud service “GPUSOROBAN.” To date, the company has opened data centers at five locations in Ishikawa, Kagawa, and Saga Prefectures, repurposing idle facilities such as closed schools in regional communities. With proprietary construction know-how that draws on the strengths of each location, HIGHRESO keeps the environmental impact of its operations low and promotes green transformation (GX). The company also contributes to “Watt-Bit Integration,” a Japanese government initiative that seeks to drive domestic economic growth by developing digital infrastructure and to promote regional revitalization by distributing data centers across the country.

In addition to supplying BESS developed and manufactured in Japan, PowerX will draw on its electricity businesses, including aggregation, market trading, and retail supply, to build resilient energy infrastructure that supports the power demand of the AI era and to help improve Japan's energy self-sufficiency.
