PowerX to Open New Factory in Hokkaido to Expand BESS Production

TOKYO, JAPAN --- PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito; Securities Code: 485A) will open a new factory, “Power Base Hokkaido,” in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, to meet the growing demand for grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company today concluded contracts for the acquisition of the building and land.

PowerX currently manufactures all of its products at its facilities in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, including large-scale BESS for grid-scale battery farms and solar co-location applications. With renewable energy playing an increasingly central role in Japan’s power mix, demand for BESS that support grid stabilization is expected to grow. The new facility addresses three key objectives: securing sufficient supply capacity, reducing natural disaster risk through geographic diversification, and optimizing transportation costs for finished products.

Tomakomai City, the site of the new factory, is adjacent to both the Port of Tomakomai and New Chitose Airport, providing excellent access by sea and air. By renovating an existing building on-site, PowerX plans to begin BESS manufacturing in June 2027. Production will primarily serve grid-scale battery farm projects in the Hokkaido and Tohoku areas.

The factory will launch with one production line, with the layout designed to accommodate up to two. PowerX is also considering mixed production of its Scalable Modular Data Center, currently under development, on the same lines.
