PowerX Launches Power Aggregation Service for Solar Power Plants with Co-located Battery Energy Storage Systems

2025.08.21

TOKYO, JAPAN — PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito) announced the launch of its "Power Aggregation Service" for solar power plants with co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS). This new service integrates power generation with the charging and discharging of the battery systems to optimise energy use.

As the first project under this service, PowerX has signed an operational management agreement with Senko Corporation (Head Office: Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture; President: Taizo Ohashi), which operates a power generation business under the Senko Denki Group, for its solar power plant in Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture.

Under this initiative, one "Mega Power 2700A" battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 2,742 kWh will be installed at the power plant in 2025. The installation will be handled by Universal Ecology Inc. (Head Office: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; President: Tomonori Ishida). Subsequently, power operations are scheduled to begin around February 2026, after transitioning from the current Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme to the Feed-in Premium (FIP) scheme.

While the adoption of renewable energy is progressing in Japan, "output curtailment"—the temporary reduction of power output when generation exceeds demand—is increasing in Western Japan, particularly in the Kyushu area. Co-locating BESS at existing solar power plants addresses this challenge by making it possible to temporarily store surplus electricity generated during the day and supply it during times of high demand, such as evenings and nights. This contributes to stabilizing the power grid's supply-demand balance. Furthermore, by transitioning to the FIP scheme, a premium linked to market prices is added, allowing power producers to expect improved profitability.

PowerX enables power producers to maximize their asset value through a total solution that spans the sale and installation of its BESS, developed and manufactured in Japan, as well as post-commissioning aggregation and maintenance. Guided by its mission to "Accelerate the shift to renewable energy," PowerX will continue to drive the widespread adoption of co-located BESS for solar power plants, leveraging both its products and services to help Japan achieve carbon neutrality.
