2025.03.10

TOKYO, JAPAN ― PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Minato City, Tokyo, Japan; Director, President & CEO: Masahiro Ito) has signed a partnership agreement with Hexa Energy Service G.K.(Head Office: Chiyoda City, Tokyo, Executive Manager : Yuko Shah) , a wholly owned subsidiary of Hexa Renewables, a portfolio company of I Squared Capital, to jointly develop grid-scale battery storage systems (BESS) in Japan. Through this collaboration, the two companies aim to initiate projects and begin operating more than 10 high-voltage BESS sites across the country over the next 12 months.
Under this partnership, PowerX will leverage its domestic manufacturing capabilities to supply its containerized stationary battery storage system, Mega Power, to each project. Additionally, PowerX will oversee site selection and the overall development of high-quality grid battery storage sites. Meanwhile, Hexa Energy Service will own the BESS facilities and operate them in the energy market, contributing to grid stability.
The deployment of these new BESS sites will support Japan’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. With the newly adopted 7th Strategic Energy Plan, positioning renewable energy as a primary power source, reinforcing grid balancing capabilities with grid-scale BESS has become more critical than ever. PowerX remains committed to expanding Japan’s grid balancing capabilities by collaborating with key partners and delivering innovative battery solutions.
