PowerX and Nishimu Electronics Deliver Solar Colocated Battery Energy Storage System Certified for Primary Frequency Control

Operation Commences at Kyuden Mirai Energy’s Solar Power Plant

2026.02.05

TOKYO, JAPAN --- PowerX, Inc. (Head Office: Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture; Director, President and CEO: Masahiro Ito) and Nishimu Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka; President: Hideyuki Yamashina) today announced the delivery of a solar colocated battery energy storage system (BESS) that has received the first certification in Japan from a Transmission System Operator (TSO) for supporting "Primary Frequency Control" with grid-charging capabilities. The system began operations today at "Omura Mega Solar Power Plant No. 4" (Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture), owned by Kyuden Mirai Energy Company, Incorporated (Head Office: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture; President and CEO: Yutaka Mizumachi).

The system consists of PowerX’s BESS “Mega Power 2700A” and Nishimu Electronics’ energy management system (EMS) “TAMERBA EMS.” By charging the BESS with solar energy during the day to avoid curtailment and discharging it in the evening for electricity sales, the system utilizes "time-shifting" to maximize the value and effective use of renewable energy. Furthermore, it is the first solar colocated BESS in Japan to support "Primary Frequency Control" in the balancing market. This multi-use approach, combining time-shifting with frequency regulation, aims to maximize revenue.

Moving forward, PowerX and Nishimu Electronics will continue to contribute to the expansion of renewable energy and the realization of a decarbonized society through the promotion of this system.
